Jace and I went to Deseret Book today to pick up a gift for my nieces' baptism this weekend. As I'm shopping, Jace is wandering around looking at the rings. A couple minutes later I'm ready to check out. I call to Jace and he comes skipping down the aisle with his hand in his pocket. Hmmm...''Jace what's in your pocket?" He assures me there is nothing in his pocket. My 'Mommy ESP' kicked in about now and I told him to turn his pockets inside out. He looked quite startled at the suggestion! He proceeds to turn his pockets inside out and sure enough there is a brand new (in the package) CTR ring. Seriously?! ...now I know that just about every child does something like this in their lifetime. I remember stealing a peanut at the grocery store once...I still feel guilty! But seriously...my children DO NOT steal! Do they? This has completely thrown me for a loop today! Jace is currently sitting on his bed reflecting on what he did and I'm wallowing in self pity wondering where I went wrong as a mother!
The only thing that is making this situation somewhat humorous for me is the fact that my child stole a CTR ring! Choose the right?? I don't think so!

I have to tell you I am crying I am laughing so hard! That is like trying to steal a BOM from missionarys. That kid is too much.
Hey--he is planning on choosing the right AFTER he leaves the store with the goods!!
I am laughing so hard. LOL, heeehaaahee, oh too funny! I think Bonnie is right he was planning on choosing the right once the ring was on and he left the store.
This will be a funny story to tease him about for years to come! I can hear you telling it at his mission farewell:) Too funny!
Ohhhh!!! That is hilarious. That is the story of the day! Thanks for sharing.
Autumn, that is seriously hilarious!! No wonder you wanted me to read it instead of telling me in person. I had to read it out loud to Steve. SOOOOO FUNNY! And don't feel so bad about it. I really believe every child has to do it at least once in their life. Mine was a tube of gum.
Oh my, Autumn I'm sorry, but that is funny. I once stole scripture marking pencils from the bookstore, reflecting back on it, it's very ironic. But it's good that you caught him his first time. So there probably won't be a next time. Do you need Sean to talk to him? hahaha I only hope I'm as good as mom as you are to pay attention like that. Good job!
I'd almost have to take Teri up on her offer...talking to a cop might scare that kid straight for the rest of his life! Unless, of course, Sean decided to share other humorous theft-themed stories with Jace...yeah, never mind. That might just give him more ideas. Loved the story. Laughed right out loud!
Well??? At least it's something you can tease him about for the rest of his life. I can totally see Grant trying something like that! You are one of the best moms I know!
Uncle Trent is still laughing!!! I love that kid SO much!
That is so funny!! My kids still have a hard time understanding that the candy barrels at the store aren't "please take, I'm free"!
Oh that is good! He will never live that one down, I can just picture you telling that story when you send him off on his mission or at his wedding breakfast. That is so Funny! I love it.
At least he went for something good! I wonder if a big beeper would have gone off if you wouldn't have had him turn his pockets out...that would be embarrassing. Yay, about the VT that will be way fun. Hey, I was wondering too if we need to ask that Ann Shumway about bringing our receipts. What do you think?
That is funny. I guess if he going to steal something a CTR ring is the way to go.
that is a great confession!
I love your confession corner. Great idea! Now I have to check Rochelle's blog just to see that everyday. Funny!
He just REALLY wanted a CTR ring! I always know where to come when I need my daily laugh... your stories are the best!
I love your confession corner! So funny!!
I thought you had perfect kids. Ha,ha. I guess at some point each of our children jolts us out of our perfect dream. That was a great story and I have my own to share and compare. You're not alone on this one.
That is so funny! We have been talking so much about ctr in primary and a couple of the girls have been wearing their rings a lot. Maybe he just feels a little left out. He is so cute! He is fun to have in class. ~Emily
Okay, that's going to be a great story someday! Who steals a CTR ring? I love it!
The problem you have is that you never taught him how to steal without being caught. Now he'll probably never be the juvenile delinquent you could have raised. Good luck in your future lessons for him, and remember, "It is better to ask forgiveness, than permission." Sister Shumway is now cussing me, and saying "that's not a comment a missionary should send." But I figure you know me.
