Life Without....

Our family has been television free since the first of September. Lately I've been noticing how behind on current events I am. Someone will say to me ...can you believe... or, did you see.... Nope. I know I have access to the world wide web and could keep up this way, but honestly it just seems a little too time consuming. Ignorance is bliss??
Things we miss about tv:
The Disney Channel
he lives in a pineapple under the sea...
TLC (The Roloffs and Jon and Kate)
High Stakes Poker (this one excludes me)
DVR
Things we like about not having tv:
peace and quiet
less homework hassle
not having to pay the cable bill
never having to look for the remote
...peace and quiet....

I'm sure you're better off without it but the only thing I might add to that is Grey's Anatomy and The Office. Otherwise, I could probably go without too!

Wow, I didn't know you had done that. I have actually been debating doing the same thing. Hmmm, something to think about.

Good for you. I have debated about getting rid of my satelite and just having free tv. I dont know if my family could go cold turkey since it is football season

I hear ya. I seem to watch all my shows on the internet these days. I never watch the news (its depressing). Good for you guys. I can't go cold turkey though :)

I think it's awesome! While, in the same breath, know I couldn't do it:) Sad to say that one of my favorite hobbies is watching tv...

I'm super impressed...does this mean that you haven't been watching ANY TV? No antenna stuff? Heroes? Grey's? Etc.? I'm curious how that is going?

BTW, I don't watch the news either. I have no idea what's going on in the world...I just think that the news is typically TOO depressing. I prefer ignorance.

Dani and I didn't have a tv until Emily was about 2 1/2 or so. So we didn't have a tv for about 3+ years. It really is nice. I spent so much time actually WITH my kids playing and reading. It really does simplify your day and suddenly you have so much more time! :) Pretty soon you won't even miss what you miss now about it. The computer is another story... I don't think I could do that!

Wow, that is pretty cool. What made you guys decide to do that? I think it is a great idea.

I usually get booted off our family room tv so I get to watch the one in my room and Jackson lost my remote somewhere, so I haven't even turned mine on in a long time. I don't really know what's going on. I heard Obama is going to be president, at least I know that. I've been missing you, how've you been?

I'm right there with you. We've never had TV until Kyle left to work out of state. He said that it was for me so I wouldn't be lonely at night. Honestly, it is just background noise when it's on. I could live without it again, and live without the bill!

Oh, I don't have your e-mail address. e-mail me chelseawhitney@gmial.com

We are proud of you. The no tv thing is a great idea. It will be so good for your kids and family life. Sister Shumway and I have been without a tv for one full year, too. Kind of a "forced denial thing". When we get home, I thnk Sister Shumway will continue to go through tv denial, but I am going to spend all of my time in front of the sports channels... except for when I'm working as a "greeter" at Wal-Mart.

Sister Shumway says," I really don't think so, Elder Shumway, (on either count.)"
I am very thrilled with your idea. My mother used to regularly take our TV our of commission by pulling a tube out. It was good.
There is a woman by the name of Jane M. Heally, Phd., who wrote an amazing book entitled, "Endangered Minds." She would be very proud of you.

I don't watch TV. The kids watch movies that we have and Jeremy will try to find sports or end up at Kelly's. We have No shows we watch. I LOVE IT! It's so nice to have our evenings!

Good for you! I have heard about people who do this... but never known anyone who did. You are an inspiration. I could not get my husband away from football...ok I would REALLY miss the Office.

Wow! I don't know if I could do it. And I guarantee my husband wouldn't. Good for you guys! I'm sure it make life much more simple.
